ABOUT JEFF BAKER:.

I'll help you find your way and assist you in protecting your estate and loved ones.

Jeff Baker is a Wilmingtonian  by birth, as is his Wife of 34 years.  He has practiced law in the Wilmington, Burgaw, Clinton, Brunswick and Bladen County areas since 1982 and is licensed in all North Carolina Courts at all levels. He now limits his practice to Civil matters, and no longer litigates Family Law matters after 39 years of practice and is limiting his practice to  Estate related matters.

His firm will be here for your legal needs now and in the future.  Jeff graduated from UNC-CHAPEL HILL in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and from WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW, with a Juris Doctor in 1982 and has been in Civil practice since that time.  Mr. Baker's family has lived in Wilmington for over 7 decades and he now lives in Wilmington.

Immediately upon graduation and passing the Bar In 1982, Jeff started his career with Wells, Blossom and Burrows of Wallace, NC, working in their Duplin County and New Hanover County offices. The firm represented Murphy Farms, Murphy Brown, Carol Farms, Nash Johnson Farms, Branch Bank and Trust and various other business/agricultural technology firms.  He quickly began training to became the firms Family/Domestic lawyer and was immediately involved in high level Equitable Distribution and Alimony matters, being co-counsel in matters involving a Fortune 500 client within the first month of his employment.

Mr. Baker also represented Scotchman Stores and Worseley Oil Company in various phases of their operations. He dealt with property acquisitions, franchise and leasing, corporate consolidation, labor law and Workers Compensation areas.

In 1984 Mr. Baker left Duplin County to come home and became a full partner with Judge Hardie Ferguson of Wilmingon, NC.  Mr. Ferguson was the Public Administrator for Estates in New Hanover County and practiced as a Trial Judge and private practitioner for over 52 years.  He recruited Mr. Baker to come in as his full partner and to be the firms litigator. Mr. Baker immediately assisted in and handled all facets of operation, including all litigation, all Domestic, Wills and estates, drafting, Trust creation and establishment, Probate and Estate administration.

Jeff is an experienced and well-seasoned attorney, and in the past often spent the majority of his time in Court . He has tried dozens of cases and approximately 100 or more other matters per year. Some "trial attorneys" only try a few matters each year!  Mr. Baker is no longer in the Courtroom as much as he used to be, but is now focusing on Estate work.  Due to the loss of his Brother, Father and Mother in a 5 year period, Mr. Baker came to realize the need for estate work at a human level and now makes every effort to assist his clients in the comfort of their homes or other locations where they feel comfortable.  Of course, with the current health concerns facing all of us, safety and health  matters are at the forefront. The main issue is that, to the extent possible, Mr. Baker does not wish you or your loved one to have to experience pain or discomfort merely to meet at this office, although that is certainly possible.  Arrangements can certainly be made to meet at your convenience and in a familiar and comfortable locale.
